About Wivenhoe Dam

Wivenhoe Dam is a popular recreation area for fishing, camping, kayaking/canoeing and swimming.

It is a water storage dam for south east queensland with a capacity of 2.5 times that of Sydney Harbour.

Power boats are not permitted on the dam which means it is a peaceful place for kayaking and swimming.

There are barbecue and picinic facilities on the Esk side of the dam at the SEQ Water education centre.

Fishing

Bass, Silver Perch and Yellow Belly as well as Saratoga and Cod are all stocked in Wivenhoe Dam. Red Claw used to be a popular target too, however recent reports have indicated there aren't many of these left (if any). There is an excellent write up on techniques for fishing Wivenhoe Dam on fishnyak.com site here
